When seeking insights into market conditions for private companies, many investors look to Indications of Interest (IOI), which is generally a non-binding indication of a buyer or seller's interest in purchasing or selling a security.
Artificial intelligence startup Groq Inc. has partnered with oil producer Aramco to build a giant data center in Saudi Arabia that it hopes will become a hub for companies running AI systems across the Middle East, Africa and India. The California-based startup will operate what it has said will be the world’s largest AI inferencing center that initially has 19,000 language processing units, while Aramco will fund the development that is expected to cost “in the order of nine figures,” Groq Chief Executive Officer Jonathan Ross said in an interview in Riyadh.
Groq, a startup developing chips to run generative AI models faster than conventional processors, said on Monday that it has raised $640 million in a new funding round led by Blackrock. Neuberger Berman, Type One Ventures, Cisco, KDDI and Samsung Catalyst Fund also participated.
Groq, a leader in fast AI inference, has secured a $640M Series D round at a valuation of $2.8B. The round was led by funds and accounts managed by BlackRock Private Equity Partners with participation from both existing and new investors including Neuberger Berman, Type One Ventures, and strategic investors including Cisco Investments, Global Brain’s KDDI Open Innovation Fund III, and Samsung Catalyst Fund. The unique, vertically integrated Groq AI inference platform has generated skyrocketing demand from developers seeking exceptional speed.
Groq now allows you to make lightning fast queries and perform other tasks with leading large language models (LLMs) directly on its web site. The company quietly introduced the capability last week. The results are much faster and smarter than the company has demoed before. It lets you type your queries, but also lets you speak the queries with voice commands. On the tests I did, Groq replied at around 1256.54 tokens per second, a speed that appears almost instantaneous, and something that GPU chips from companies like Nvidia are unable to do, according to Groq.
