Whoop’s news and media highlights

Boutique fitness franchise Barre3 is leaning into Whoop’s user-driven revelations that recovery, stress management and improved sleep quality are top-of-mind for wellness seekers. Barre3 has partnered with the wearable tech company and is gifting its members a one-month free trial (or 10% off an annual or 24-month membership) to Whoop so they can dial into their health metrics. Sadie Lincoln, Barre3’s co-founder and CEO, said the partnership with Boston-based Whoop was a natural fit given the synergies between the boutique fitness brand and wearable tech company.
The impact of remote work and artificial intelligence on jobs has never been more scrutinized. One company thinking about this is Whoop, a Boston healthtech startup that makes a popular wearable health tracker. The company has tried differentiating itself in a busy wearables market by targeting athletes and serious fitness enthusiasts. As its CEO, Will Ahmed, said, Whoop aims to "unlock human performance." In 2021, the company raised $200 million at a $3.6 billion valuation in a funding round led by SoftBank Vision Fund 2. A spokesperson said Whoop, which was founded in 2012, has about 500 employees.
Whoop has created a conversational AI coach designed to help you meet your health goals. Whoop Coach is powered by GPT4, the advanced generative AI system from OpenAI, and it uses the unique biometric data collected by Whoop Bands to offer personalized fitness advice and recommendations. Whoop says it's the first AI coach of its kind available in a fitness wearable. To my knowledge, no other wearable on the market uses AI to answer questions and provide customized guidance within its app.
Will Ahmed has come a long way as an entrepreneur and CEO since launching Whoop with some college buddies in 2012. "I think I was naturally inclined toward entrepreneurship, but I became an entrepreneur before I even knew what an entrepreneur was," Ahmed, now 31, tells CNBC Make It. Whoop — a membership service that says it "collects physiological data 24/7 to provide the most accurate and granular understanding of your body" via a wearable and an app — has also grown drastically.
