The Boring Company News and Media Highlights

18 more stations approved for Vegas Loop transit system

The Boring Co.’s planned Vegas Loop expansion got the green light Wednesday from the Clark County Commission. The system, which originally was planned to feature 29 miles of tunnels with 51 stations, will now add 25 miles of newly planned tunnels and 18 new stations within Clark County’s jurisdiction. The commission approved the updated plan in a 6-1 vote Wednesday.

Elon Musk's Boring Company will build a 34-mile tunnel network underneath Las Vegas

The Boring Company's underground transportation system will be more expansive than what it originally planned. The Elon Musk-founded company has just received approval from the city to bring its underground transportation system called the Vegas Loop to city limits. When Clark County Commissioners first approved the Vegas Loop, it was supposed to be a 29-mile tunnel network connecting 51 stations. Now, the network will span 34 miles and have a total of 55 stations, including ones that will serve the Harry Reid International Airport and the Allegiant Stadium.

Elon Musk’s Boring Company hits $5.7B valuation following strong $675M funding round

Elon Musk’s very good week is getting better. On the day Tesla posted record earnings, one of his other endeavors, The Boring Company, (TBC) “founded by Elon Musk to revolutionize transportation,” announced it had raised $675 million, bringing its valuation to $5.67 billion. The funding round, announced April 20, was led by Vy Capital and Sequoia Capital — with participation from Valor Equity Partners, Founders Fund, 8VC, Craft Ventures, and DFJ Growth — according to a press release. One of the company’s stated main missions is to solve the problem of “soul-destroying traffic,” by having roads “go 3D.”

The Boring Company tests its ‘Teslas in Tunnels’ system in Las Vegas

Elon Musk’s Boring Company started shuttling passengers through the twin tunnels it built underneath the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC) this week, as part of a test to get the system ready for its full debut in June. Videos, images, and accounts shared around the internet by the people who showed up for the test offer the most coherent glimpse yet at Musk’s solution for traversing the LVCC campus. It is quite literally just Teslas being driven through two 0.8-mile tunnels — a far cry from the autonomous sled-and-shuttle ideas that Musk once proposed for The Boring Company.
