Neuralink’s news and media highlights

Elon Musk’s brain-computer company, Neuralink Corp., has successfully implanted its device into a second patient, Musk said on a podcast hosted by computer scientist Lex Fridman. Musk provided few details about the surgery, which had to be postponed after the patient originally scheduled for the second procedure had to withdraw in June due to an unspecified medical condition.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration gave a green light to Elon Musk’s Neuralink to implant its brain chip in a second person, signing off on the company’s proposed fixes for a problem that occurred in the first test participant. The fixes include embedding some of the device’s ultrathin wires deeper into the brain, according to a person familiar with the company and a document viewed by The Wall Street Journal.
Less than a month after Neuralink founder Elon Musk announced that the company’s brain-computer interface technology had been implanted in a human for the first time, that study participant is already taking the first steps toward controlling a computer using only their mind, according to Musk. His latest update on the Neuralink clinical trial came, once again, via X, the social media platform he owns.
Billionaire technology investor Elon Musk, who is the CEO of neurotechnology startup Neuralink, announced that the company successfully implanted one of its devices into a human as part of its testing initiatives. Neuralink gained approval from the U.S. Food & Drug Administration in May 2023, which paved the way for human trials of its medical device implants. Musk said the company’s first product is called Telepathy and it enables users to control computers and mobile devices through their thoughts.
