Perplexity’s news and media highlights

Perplexity has launched an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered shopping assistant in the U.S. and said it will expand it to additional markets. With the company’s new Buy With Pro, shoppers can both research and purchase products, Perplexity said in a Monday (Nov. 18) blog post. “It marks a big leap forward in how we serve our users — empowering seamless native actions right from an answer,” the company said in the post. “Shopping online just got 10x more easy and fun.”
Perplexity AI, the artificial-intelligence search engine startup, is in the final stages of raising $500 million in funding at a $9 billion valuation, a source familiar with the situation told CNBC. The startup competes against the likes of Google and ChatGPT-maker OpenAI. Perplexity most recent valuation was $3 billion in June. Institutional Venture Partners, a Bay Area-based firm, is leading the new round, according to the source, who requested anonymity since the funding is not yet public.
AI search startup Perplexity has had a turbulent relationship with some news publishers, and now it has hired a tech industry veteran to help change that. Jessica Chan, a former manager at LinkedIn and Meta, joined Perplexity last month as the two-year-old startup’s first head of publisher partnerships, according to a spokesperson. News of her hiring hasn’t been reported.
Artificial-intelligence search company Perplexity has begun fundraising talks in which it is looking to more than double its valuation to $8 billion or more, as startups try to ride the coattails of OpenAI’s recent big investment. Perplexity has raised three rounds of funding in the past year—an unusually fast pace even by the standards of Silicon Valley. In January, it was valued at $520 million. By this summer, its valuation had grown to $3 billion.
