Digital Currency Group was founded in 2015 by Barry Silbert. In light of a recent $10 billion valuation, Silbert said that an IPO remains a possibility, but is “not in the plans and not being discussed right now.” These comments should not be interpreted to mean that the company is formally pursuing or foregoing an IPO.

Digital Currency Group is a venture capital firm with a focus on cryptocurrencies, blockchain technologies, and digital currency markets. The group owns and operates a number of businesses including Coindesk, a cryptocurrency news site, Greyscale, a digital asset management firm, as well as Genesis, Luno, Tradeblock, and Foundry. Digital Currency Group maintains an investment portfolio that includes Circle, Coinbase, Figure, NFT Bank, and Bitpay. The company has raised more than $1 billion in venture capital funding from investors including Francisco Partners, Eldridge, Davidson Kempner, Capital Group, and SoftBank Vision Fund.
