Kraken is a global marketplace for the secure buying, selling, and trading of cryptocurrency. Jesse Powell co-founded Kraken in 2011 and he continues to lead the company as CEO from its headquarters in San Francisco, CA. In a March 2022 interview with CNBC, Jesse Powell stated, " We're building all these components of things, and I think the next decade is really going to be about seeing how all these components fit together to build this new world of the tokenized system and things existing without middlemen into the metaverse." In addition to enabling convenient online currency exchange, Kraken also provides expert financial resources and support to individual and institutional traders.

In June 2021, Powell speaking to Bloomberg, said that the exchange is preparing to go public within the next 12 to 18 months. He also mentioned that Kraken could choose the IPO route over a direct listing, he seemed confident about a successful public listing, adding that they were “doing all the prep work.” These comments should not be interpreted to mean that the company is formally pursuing or foregoing an IPO.
