Workato was founded in 2013 by Vijay Tella, Gautham Viswanathan, and Dimitris Kogias. In 2021, Tella told NBC "We are absolutely looking to do an IPO at some point," adding that "we don't have a specific timeline."

Workato is a workflow automation platform. In 2021 the company announced the acquisition of RailsData, an platform that seeks to integrate apps, data, and devices. Workato was named on CNBC's 2022 Disruptor 50 list. The company has raised more than $420 million in venture capital funding from investors including Battery Ventures, Insight Partners, Altimeter Capital, and Tiger Global. A $200 million Series E fundraising round resulted in a $5.7 billion valuation in 2021.
