Royole is a Shenzhen, China based firm founded by Zihong Liu, Xiaojun Yu, and Peng Wei in 2012. In January 2020, Bloomberg reported that the company had confidentially filed registration documents with the SEC as required for a public offering. It has not yet been confirmed by the company whether they are formally pursuing an IPO.
The company designs and manufactures flexible OLED displays and sensors as well as smart devices. In line with those capabilities, Royole released the first commercially available folding phone in 2018. According to Pitchbook, Royole has raised nearly $1.4 billion in Venture Capital funding from investors including Yingke Capital, IDG Capital Partners, Shenzhen Capital Group, Agricultural Bank of China, Ping An Bank, Green Pine Capital Partners, and Knights Investment Group. It has been widely reported that the company last raised $300 million in May 2020 at a post-money valuation of $6 billion.
