Common Living was founded in 2015 by Brad Hargreaves. In 2021, Hargreaves told the Wall Street Journal that he has been approached by numerous SPACs, but had not pursued conversations as he wants Common to grow more and develop more predictable revenue streams before going public. These comments should not be interpreted to mean that the company is formally pursuing or foregoing an IPO.
Common Living is a communal living property management that currently operates 48 group homes in 9 U.S. cities, with plans to expand to 22 cities around the world. Since 2016, the company has acquired Skylight, a New York City apartment rental platform, and Starcity, a co-living technology platform. Common has raised more than $110 million in venture capital funding from investors including Kinnevik, Norwest Venture Partners, 8VC, Wilshire Lane Partners, Hanaco Venture Capital, and Maveron.
