Color Health was founded in 2015 by Elad Gil, Nish Bhat, Othman Laraki, and Taylor Sittler. While the company has not spoken publicly about an IPO, a successful round of funding in 2021 pushed the company to a post-money valuation of $4.6 billion, securing unicorn status by a wide margin. These comments should not be interpreted to mean that the company is formally pursuing or foregoing an IPO.

Color Health offers a wide variety of gene testing services, as well as large-scale COVID-19 testing solutions. In light of the global health situation, the company has scaled up its public health programs. According to a press release, Color "is currently running the largest COVID-19 testing program for K-12 schools in the nation." The latest round of funding brought in $100 million, bringing the total funding to $378 million from investors including Kindred Ventures, T. Rowe Price Associates, General Catalyst, Viking Global Investors, and Emerson Collective.
