Aspiration was founded in 2013 by Andrei Cherny and Joseph N. Sanberg. The company announced plans to go public through a $2.3 billion SPAC merger in 2021. The deal has been delayed and their original CEO has resigned.

Aspiration is an environmentally-friendly fintech company. Every time someone uses the company's credit card, one of Aspiration's global reforestation partners will plant a tree, helping offset the user's carbon footprint. Users also receive 1% cash back on every purchase. The company acquired Carbon Insights in 2022. Aspiration has raised more than $250 million in venture capital funding from investors including AlphaEdison, Capricorn Investment Group, Allen & Co., Leonardo DiCaprio, Orlando Bloom, and Robert Downey Jr.’s Footprint Coalition. The company has not disclosed valuation figures since the proposed SPAC deal.
