Amprius Technologies was founded in 2008 by Yi Cui and Mark Platshon. In May 2022, the company announced plans to go public through a SPAC merger with Kensington Capital Acquisition Corp. These comments should not be interpreted to mean that the company is formally pursuing or foregoing an IPO.

Amprius is the manufacturer of 100% Silicon Nanowire Batteries, a high performance variant of current lithium-ion designs. In February 2022, the company shipped its first batch of high-density 450Wh/kg batteries — for reference, Tesla's Model 3 cells hold 260 Wh/kg. Amprius has raised more than $50 million in venture capital funding from investors including Bossanova, VantagePoint Capital Partners, Trident Capital, SAIF Partners, IPV Capital, Kleiner Perkins, and Chinergy Capital. Amprius and Kensington Capital Acquisition Corp. predict that the company will be valued at $1.3 billion when the SPAC merger is finalized.
