Acorns was founded in 2012 by Jeffrey and Walter Cruttenden. In an interview with CNBC from January 2019, CEO Noah Kerner expressed his hopefulness for an eventual IPO for the company. These comments should not be interpreted to mean that the company is formally pursuing or foregoing an IPO. Acorns is a fintech company specializing in robo-advising and micro-investing.
At the time of the same CNBC interview, Acorns had approximately $1.2 billion in assets under management representing two million accounts. The company has raised approximately $280 million in Venture Capital funding from investors including Ashton Kutcher, BlackRock, Capital Group, Comcast Ventures, DST Global, MSD Capital, NBCUniversal, Bain Capital Ventures, Rakuten Capital, e.ventures, and Green Oaks Venture Capital. It has been widely reported that Acorns last raised over $100 million in January 2019 at a post-money valuation of nearly $900 million.
