Talkdesk was founded in 2011 by Cristina Fonseca and Tiago Paiva. Bloomberg reports that the company is preparing to file for an IPO in 2022, though Talkdesk has not commented on the matter. The company did, however, cite the IPO leadership experience of CFO Cydney Carey and board member Tom Reilley as important reasons for their appointments. These comments should not be interpreted to mean that the company is formally pursuing or foregoing an IPO.

Talkdesk is a cloud-based "call center as a service" provider. The company also offers AI software to help businesses improve customer satisfaction and maximize the productivity of human agents. Talkdesk appeared on Forbes' 2021 Cloud 100 list. The company has raised just under $500 million in venture capital funding from investors such as Whale Rockt, TI Platform Management, Alpha Square Group, Franklin Templeton, Willoughby Capital, Lead Edge Capital, and Threshold Ventures. Per a company press release, Talkdesk is valued at $10 billion.
