Headspace was founded in 2010 by Andy Puddicombe and Rich Pierson. CEO Russell Glass says that the company will continue to pursue private funding, but did not rule out the possibility of an IPO, stating that “Inasmuch as we believe that being public will help us reach more people...then going public will be something that we will be very compelled to do." These comments should not be interpreted to mean that the company is formally pursuing or foregoing an IPO.
Headspace is a meditation and mindfulness platform that provides preventative mental health services. While the largest portion of the company's revenue comes from its D2C business, Headspace also generates revenue through employer contracts and deals with health plans. In addition to a merger with Ginger.io in 2021, Headspace has acquired Sayana and Alpine.ai. The company has raised $215 million in venture capital funding from investors including Waverley, Times Bridge, The Chernin Group, Spectrum Equity Investors, and Advancit Capital. Following the merger with Ginger, Headspace was valued at $3 billion.
