Sweetgreen was founded in 2007 by Jonathan Neman, Nicolas Jammet, and Nathaniel Ru. In an interview with The Street from November 2019, CEO Jonathan Neman noted, regarding an IPO, that “it's something that we're considering, but nothing in the near future.” These comments should not be interpreted to mean that the company is formally pursuing or foregoing an IPO.
Sweetgreen owns and operates a chain of fast-casual restaurants using fresh ingredients and produce to provide real food that is convenient and accessible to everyone. The company has raised approximately $515 million in Venture Capital funding from investors including Revolution, Signatures Capital, Corstone Capital, T. Rowe Price, Warren Capital Group, Collaborative Fund, Red Sea Ventures, Sand Hill Ventures, Torch Capital, True Ventures, Breakaway Ventures, D1 Capital Partners, Lone Pine Capital, and Fidelity Investments. Per company press releases, Sweetgreen last raised $150 million in September 2019 at a post-money valuation of $1.6 billion.
