Sonder was founded in 2012 by Francis Davidson, Lucas Pellan, and Olivier Gareau. In an October 2019 interview with Fox Business, CEO Francis Davidson stated that “At the right time…I think an IPO is the path for this company” adding an estimate “in the 18-36-month time horizon.” These comments should not be interpreted to mean that the company is formally pursuing or foregoing an IPO.

Sonder is a hospitality company offering vacations rentals that combine the consistency of hotels with the appeal of alternative rentals. The company has raised around $525 million in Venture Capital funding from investors including Atreides Capital, Akkadian Ventures, Amalfi Capital, Fidelity Investments, Thayer Ventures, Inovia Capital, Greylock Partners, and Structure Capital. It has been widely reported that Sonder last raised $170 million in May 2020 at a post-money valuation of $1.3 billion.
