Smule was founded in 2008 by Jeff Smith and Ge Wang. The company has expressed its intent to pursue an public offering, but has not disclosed official plans. These comments should not be interpreted to mean that the company is formally pursuing or foregoing an IPO.
Smule is the developer of a family of music-based mobile apps including Smule, Ocarina, AutoRap, Guitar!, and I Am T-Pain. In 2011, the company acquired Khush, another musical app developer. Smule has raised more than $170 million in venture capital funding from investors including Times Bridge, Tencent, Shasta Ventures, Floodgate, Cherry Tree Investments, Adams Street Partners, and Bessemer Venture Partners. The company has been valued at $604 million.
