Dutchie was founded in 2017 by Ross Lipson, Sam Ellis, Samuel Ellis, and Zach Lipson. In 2021, when a reporter inquired about a potential IPO, Lipson responded by saying, "we are always looking at all opportunities."

Dutchie works with cannabis dispensaries to manage their online presence and ecommerce operations. The company is also a proponent of cannabis education as an increasing number of states allow adult use dispensaries. In 2021, Dutchie acquired LeafLogix and Greenbits, two software providers focused on the cannabis industry. The company has raised more than $600 million in venture capital funding from investors including D1 Capital Partners, Tiger Global, Dragoneer, DFJ Growth, and Thrive Capital. Dutchie increased its valuation to $3.75 billion following a $350 million fundraising round in 2021.

These comments should not be interpreted to mean that the company is formally pursuing or foregoing an IPO.
