Apeel Sciences was founded in 2012 by James Rogers. The company has not publicly endorsed a plan to participate in an IPO. These comments should not be interpreted to mean that the company is formally pursuing or foregoing an IPO.
Apeel is an agtech company developing an edible, plant-based coating that can double the lifespan of fresh fruits and vegetables. The company hopes that its solutions will reduce food waste, reduce water and energy use, and protect ecosystems. In 2022, Apeel acquired ImpactVision, a software startup that uses AI to track the freshness and quality of food throughout its shelf life. Apeel has raised $640 million in venture capital funding from investors including Mirae Asset Global Investments, GIC, Viking Global Investors, Disruptive, Andreessen Horowitz, and Katy Perry. A $250 million Series E round increased the company's valuation to more than $2 billion.
