Apeel Sciences developed and produced Apeel, an edible coating product that helps fruits last twice as long on grocery store shelves. The company started with a focus on avocados due to their short shelf-life but will be expanding into other fruits. Apeel Sciences has raised an estimated $360 million in Venture Capital funding from investors including Andreessen Horowitz, Upfront Ventures, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, S2G Ventures, GIC Group, Rock Creek Group, and Tao Capital Partners. Per company press releases, Apeel Sciences last raised $250 million in May 2020 at a post-money valuation of more than $1 billion.
