Robot Cache News and Media Highlights

AMD Partner's Crypto Gaming Site 'Robot Cache' Exits Beta

AMD confirmed that Robot Cache, a digital storefront that allows gamers to sell used digital games with crypto or cache, is exiting beta after three years. In celebration, AMD is offering Wasteland 3 for free if you sign up with the platform. Robot Cache is one of the most unique digital distributors you can find today that allows gamers to sell digital games after playing them. You could do this with physical copies of games twenty years ago, but it isn't as prevalent today as the world transitioned to digital game purchases.

Robot Cache might be the first use of blockchain tech in games that makes any sense

Everyone in the games and tech press is sick of hearing about blockchain. For the last 12 months, we've all received a ridiculous number of press releases about how this technology is going to change the world and add value to existing services. While we wish them all the best and hope these companies do great things, most of the time, the blockchain aspect appears to have been shoehorned in. Robot Cache sells games which are tracked via blockchain tech and due to this, they can be resold safely.

3 Reasons Why Steam Competitor Robot Cache Will Succeed

Today the marketing team behind Robot Cache sent out a press release pimping the first 11 video game publishers and developers that have signed on to the Steam competitor's decentralized and, honestly, quite unique PC game distribution platform. It's an encouraging list. A list that teases a bigger promise. But in a cynical industry overflowing with competition for your dollars, it may not be quite enough to make you hunt down Robot Cache's offices and demand early access to the service.

Brian Fargo will launch blockchain currency for alternative digital game store

Veteran game publisher Brian Fargo and other game industry veterans hope to change the PC industry by creating a new cryptocurrency that serves as an alternative to the app stores. Fargo’s new company Robot Cache will create a digital PC games platform, just like Valve’s Steam digital distribution service, but it will give game publishers and developers about 95 percent of the proceeds from game sales, rather than just 70 percent as Steam and others do. Robot Cache will compete directly with the likes of Steam and GOG, and it hopes to sign up the major competitors.
