Bolt Threads is working to develop commercially viable synthetic spider silk, a remarkably strong and soft material that could be used in clothing. More recently, the company has begun to explore the possibilities of mushroom-based synthetic leather. Bolt Threads has partnered with Adidas, Lululemon, Kering, Mercedes Benz, and in 2017 acquired Best Made Company. The company has raised $470 million in venture capital from investors including Formation 8, Founders Fund, Innovation Endeavors, Baillie Gifford, Foundation Capital, East West Capital Limited, and Alafi Capital. The company has been valued at over $700 million.
