Artificial intelligence continues to attract significant capital from both companies and investors. Among U.S. companies across sectors, 95% are investing in AI, with 30% planning to invest $10 million or more, according to EY.2 As companies invest in AI to improve their own operations, many investors are also turning to AI-related companies in both the public and private market.
AI-related startups have drawn billions in venture funding in recent quarters, underscoring the sector's momentum. One example of an AI-related company catching investor interest is Anthropic.
Here, we'll take a closer look at how to invest in Anthropic stock, even as it remains a private company.
Anthropic: Company background
Anthropic isn't your usual AI startup. While one of its offerings is a popular generative AI assistant, Claude, the company also operates at a broader level as an AI safety and research company.
Anthropic is led by siblings Dario and Daniela Amodei, who are former employees of OpenAI, the makers of ChatGPT.3 The company has also attracted several other former OpenAI staff, including OpenAI Co-Founder John Schulman.4
Anthropic funding and valuation history
Anthropic has attracted significant investment since its founding in 2021. The company's Forge Price is $264.57 at a $387.97B valuation as of April 30, 2026.5 Forge Price is a proprietary indicative price calculated daily for pre-IPO technology companies.

Subsequent funding rounds have included investments from major companies and venture funds, such as Google, Amazon, Salesforce Ventures, Spark Capital and Menlo Ventures. In its Series G round, Anthropic raised $30 billion at a $380 billion post-money valuation.7
Google has committed up to $40 billion in Anthropic,8 while Amazon has invested $4 billion.9 These investments reflect the strategic importance major technology companies place on AI development.

How to buy Anthropic stock
Anthropic is not a publicly traded company, so its stock is not available on public exchanges. However, it may be possible for accredited investors to buy Anthropic stock while it remains a private company, either by investing in funding rounds or through a secondary marketplace like Forge.
On a secondary marketplace such as Forge, existing shareholders such as employees and early investors can list shares for sale before the company goes public. When a buyer and seller agree on a price, the trade proceeds through a settlement process that may include company approval and a Right of First Refusal (ROFR) period. Availability of pre-IPO Anthropic stock depends on shareholders deciding to sell, so liquidity can vary.
Forge does not facilitate transactions in any private company's shares without the explicit approval of the company. Any new sale or transfer of Anthropic stock, or any interest in Anthropic stock, that has not been approved by Anthropic's Board of Directors is void and will not be recognized on their books and records.
Who can invest in Anthropic pre-IPO
Investment in private companies like Anthropic is generally limited to institutional and high-net-worth investors for primary funding rounds, as well as accredited investors who trade existing shares on secondary marketplaces like Forge.
There are different ways to qualify as an accredited investor, but a common example is having income over $200,000 ($300,000 with spouse or partner) for the past two years, along with a reasonable expectation to also meet that threshold in the current year.10 Unless Anthropic goes public through an IPO, non-accredited investors typically cannot invest in Anthropic stock.
Alternatives for investors who want Anthropic exposure
While non-accredited investors cannot buy pre-IPO stock through a secondary marketplace like Forge, there are other ways to potentially get similar exposure.
One option is to invest in public company stocks that are also in the AI space. For example, investing in Google and Amazon could provide indirect exposure to Anthropic by nature of their private investments in the company, as well as their other AI initiatives. Another option is to invest in competitors such as Microsoft, which has a stake in OpenAI's profits.11 However, investing in public companies such as Google, Amazon or Microsoft also means investing in the many other areas of these businesses, not just AI.
Is Anthropic going public?
While Anthropic has not announced any plans for an IPO, it remains privately held with substantial venture capital backing.
An IPO would provide additional liquidity for current shareholders and allow retail investors to buy shares on a public exchange. Until then, secondary marketplaces like Forge offer one of the few avenues for accredited investors to gain exposure. Investors should weigh the uncertainty around a public listing timeline when considering a pre-IPO investment.
How to analyze Anthropic stock
For those interested in investing in Anthropic stock, it's important to conduct proper analysis and risk management rather than getting caught up in sector-wide momentum.
One resource is Forge Price, which provides a daily indicative valuation for Anthropic and approximately 200 other pre-IPO technology companies. Accredited investors and shareholders can also register on the Forge Marketplace to access Forge Data and compare Anthropic with other AI and technology-focused private companies available on the platform.
It's also important to consider that private companies like Anthropic generally have more limited liquidity than public companies. Without an IPO announcement on the horizon, investors should weigh that dynamic against investing in more liquid assets like public AI-related stocks.
